  • Jumpy Geathers is an American former professional football player who played in the National Football League (NFL) for 16 seasons. He was born on June 26, 1960, in the small town of Kingsport, Tennessee. Geathers was an All-American selection at East Tennessee State University before being drafted in the first round of the 1982 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.

    Geathers had a successful career in the NFL, playing for the Redskins, San Diego Chargers, Green Bay Packers, and Minnesota Vikings, before retiring following the 1997 season.

    During his career, he was named to four Pro Bowls, and two All-Pro teams, and was twice named the NFC Defensive Player of the Year. He recorded a total of 79.5 sacks and forced 21 fumbles in his career.

    Since his retirement, Geathers has remained active in the football community, working as a coach and assistant coach, and he has also been one of the most active former players in the NFL’s Alumni Association.
